Immediately upon arrival in Wolfsberg, you’ll notice that Wolfsberg Cup participants are popular guests, welcomed with open arms. The picturesque town in the Koralpe mountain range, nestled between Klagenfurt and Graz, plays host to ambitious young footballers each year. Wolfsberg is also home to professional club Wolfsberger AC, which competes at the highest level of Austrian football. Organised by ATSV Wolfsberg, the Wolfsberg Cup has earned a reputation as an outstanding ambassador for the town. As one participant noted in last year’s edition: “This tournament is, in a word, super – the organisation, the facilities, but above all the hospitality. All of our expectations have been exceeded.” The tournament features a wide range of age groups, including U9, U10, and U11 teams competing in 7-a-side matches lasting 24 minutes, U12 teams playing 8-a-side matches also of 24 minutes, and U13 and U15 teams competing in traditional 11-a-side matches, each lasting 30 minutes. Each category typically welcomes between 12 and 16 teams, playing a group stage followed by playoff or placement matches to guarantee plenty of playing time. Rolling substitutions are permitted in most age groups to encourage full participation and development. Set against the backdrop of the scenic Austrian mountains, with matches played on high-quality grass pitches in a modern sports park, the Wolfsberg Cup combines elite youth football with genuine Austrian hospitality and breathtaking natural surroundings – making it a truly unforgettable experience for players, coaches, and families alike.
